VERMONT SOAPWORKS EXPANDS….AGAIN!The word is out, handmade soap is good for your skinMiddlebury, VT – Vermont Soapworks, already the largest producer of handmade natural bar soaps in North America, announced today that it is once again expanding its production capacity and product line. "People everywhere are coming to realize that handmade soap is very good for your skin, and this is increasing consumer demand for our products," declares CEO Larry Plesent. The facility expansion will increase manufacturing floor space at Vermont Soapworks by one third, and overall bar soap production capacity will be increased from 5,000 to 7,500 bars of handmade soap per day. "Handmade bar soaps are, and will remain, our anchor product," he adds. Vermont Soapworks is already selling product in 43 countries under more than 40 in-house and private labels. The expansion will provide an increase in inventory levels to ensure that product is well stocked and available for customers on short notice. Vermont Soapworks already has more than 100,000 bars of handmade natural soap in stock right now, stored in a refrigerated warehouse. In addition to their famous handmade soap, Vermont Soapworks also produces a line of Castile liquid soap-based products. "We were seeking a natural liquid soap base from which to build a family of high-quality liquid soap products. In the end, we had to formulate our own natural base from coconut and olive oils to meet our performance requirements," explains Plesent. The result is a line of natural Castile liquid soaps, liquid Sunshine – a non-toxic general use cleaner and Wash dem Veggies – a fruit and vegetable rinse. Vermont Soapworks has also developed a Castile based bath gel that will be introduced later this year. "This is really exciting, a non-detergent bath gel is unheard of in the year 2000, but not for long," he proclaims. Other new products expected to be introduced in 2000 include Linen Water – an aromatherapy ironing spray, personal air freshener misters, and a hand and body lotion. For years, Vermont Soapworks has been testing botanicals for dry skin and the company has some innovative moisturizers that were developed for the bar soaps. "It is a natural step to add moisturizing lotions to our product mix," he explains. Due to their strict interpretation and commitment to what "natural" means, as well as their facility and product line expansions, Vermont Soapworks will continue to be an industry leader in the natural personal care products market. Vermont Soapworks environmentally-friendly products are available in health food, gourmet and specialty stores nationwide.
